Looking Back: A Weekend in Cabo

Travel has a way of resetting your perspective, and my trip to Cabo San Lucas did exactly that.
I traveled with a group through actor Ser'Darius Blain's travel club, Top Shelf Vacations, for a four-day getaway that blended luxury, adventure, and unforgettable scenery. Many people recognize Ser'Darius as Fridge from the Jumanji films, but through Top Shelf Vacations he has also created opportunities for travelers to experience destinations through thoughtfully curated group trips centered around relaxation, exploration, and community.
The itinerary offered a balance of relaxation and exploration. Mornings often began with beautiful resort views and time spent enjoying the atmosphere, while afternoons introduced new experiences and opportunities to see Cabo from a different perspective. One of the highlights of the trip was an ATV adventure through the rugged Baja landscape. Racing along dusty trails surrounded by dramatic desert scenery provided a striking contrast to the coastline that Cabo is known for.
An unforgettable experience was spending time aboard a private yacht out on the ocean. From the boat, I captured some of my favorite scenic images of Cabo’s surrounding water, rocky coastline, and dramatic views from a different perspective. At one point, the yacht stopped so guests could jump into the water, relax, and enjoy the moment. With catered food, music, and a DJ on board, the experience felt lively, scenic, and easy to remember. While I was a little nervous walking around on a moving yacht, the views made every moment worthwhile and created some of my favorite memories from the trip.
Evenings brought a different side of Cabo. From beachfront dinners and sunset views to gathering with fellow travelers and enjoying the energy of the destination, each day ended with moments that felt both relaxing and memorable.
While Cabo's beaches, excursions, and scenery were unforgettable, some of my favorite memories from any Top Shelf trip comes from the people I met along the way. I’ve been on at least 4 trips now and what I love most is how they bring together travelers from across the country. I enjoy getting to know individuals from different backgrounds and walks of life. What starts as a group of strangers quickly ends up feeling more like a community. One of the things Top Shelf Vacations does well is creating an environment where solo travelers feel welcome. Many of us arrived not knowing anyone, but shared meals, excursions, and conversations throughout the weekend made it easy to connect. By the end of the trip, the people I'd met on day one felt more like friends. Those shared experiences added another layer to the journey and reminded me that travel is often as much about the people you meet as the places you visit.
One of my favorite photographs from the trip captured camel caravan walking along the shoreline with the ocean stretching into the distance behind it. The image felt uniquely Cabo and perfectly reflected the unexpected moments that often become the most memorable. It later became the featured image for the Wanderlust section of DannieM Photography and remains one of my favorite travel photographs to date.

Travel photography is about more than capturing a location—it's about preserving the feeling of being there. Cabo San Lucas offered countless moments worth remembering, and I'm grateful I had the opportunity to experience and photograph them.
