Just Guac, Chips & Camera

Today’s shoot didn’t come from a client brief or a styled set—it came from a friend, a craving, and a bowl of really good guacamole.

Sunni has a way of making guac that feels effortless but unforgettable. The kind that disappears faster than you expect, even when you swear you’re just having “a few chips.” So when she made a batch for a small hangout, I saw an opportunity—not just to enjoy it, but to capture it.

This is what Pretty Eats is all about.

Great food doesn’t need a complicated setup to shine. For this shoot, I leaned into simplicity: Chili’s tortilla chips (because let’s be honest—they’re elite), paired with a unique plate I scored at Goodwill from World Market. A good thrift find always adds a little character, and in this case, the dark plate created the perfect contrast against the warm tones of the chips and the vibrant green of the guacamole.

The goal wasn’t to over-style—it was to elevate what was already there.

I focused on texture and color. The salt crystals on the chips, the creamy folds of the guac, the pop of that turquoise bowl—it all works together to make the image feel fresh, inviting, and real. The kind of image that makes you pause and think, “Okay… I need a bite of that.” Because that’s the heart of food photography: creating a craving through a frame.
